STAT: Responding to a Pediatric Code

Cardiopulmonary arrest….the complete cessation of all ventilation and circulation…a frightening event for any population, but especially for pediatric patients, their families and their caregivers. Time is of the essence, and the likelihood of a child surviving a code often depends on the ability of the clinicians to recognize the signs and symptoms of an emergent situation, and to know how to respond.

Because the first five minutes in any arrest are the most important, it is essential that personnel and equipment be organized and prepared to respond at a moments notice.
